With these numbers the last edition of Arte in Nuvola, the fair dedicated to modern and contemporary art in the capital, comes to an end. Last year we had already recognised the potential of this event in becoming the point of reference for collectors from central and southern Italy, and 2023 has fully confirmed this prospect. But the novelties do not stop there: the new edition brought artworks from every corner of Italy (and beyond) to Rome thanks to the participation of galleries that do not usually attend the most prestigious fairs.
Institutional presences such as RAI, Regione Lazio, Roma Capitale and the Post Office also stand out among the stands. Together with them we also find the city's main museums, which contribute to the artistic variety with installation works in the spaces of the Nuvola. Among these works, the Untitled (Triple igloo) by Mario Merz, the Ciclomóvil by Pedro Reyes and the ceramic work 'Suivre ses Rêves' by Victor Fotso Nyie, presented by the Museum of Civilisations, stand out.
Arte in Nuvola is therefore gradually becoming the bridge connecting art from all over the country, bringing institutions into the art market. There is a clear intention to modernise the exhibition landscape, a goal we consider necessary, creating a dynamic event with talks and performances, while maintaining an open dialogue with modern art.
Despite the clear purpose, there were unfortunately a few missteps, highlighting how the event is still growing and lacks a well-defined identity. The direction taken seems correct to us, but it will be important to better calibrate the event in future editions, perhaps giving up some elements. We hope that this will happen without homologation and that Arte in Nuvola can continue to evolve positively.
